About Me

Welcome to my webpage! My name is Lauren Jewett and I am a special education teacher of nine years. I am originally from upstate New York and now reside in New Orleans, Louisiana. Being a special education teacher is important to me because I grew up with an aunt with Down Syndrome and she has had a large impact on me as a person. I spent most of my childhood and teenage days volunteering with my family at my aunt's sporting events through the Special Olympics. Additionally, I have a family connection to teaching because my paternal grandmother was a special education teacher of 30+ years. I recently certified through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards program as an Exceptional Needs Specialist and I am currently enrolled as a graduate student at the Bread Loaf School of English. This summer one of the classes I am taking at the Sante Fe, New Mexico campus is Multimodal Writing in the Digital Age. I am particularly interested in ways to incorporate technology into special education instruction and how I can use technology as an alternative way for students to show what they know. This page has been created to record my learning and classwork throughout the course.
